He created new government programs and organized groups of people to improve the financial situation of the United States. In his first hundred days in office, he took concrete and immediate steps. He took immediate steps to halt the economic deterioration. Franklin D. Roosevelt was instrumental in saving the United States from the Great Depression. During his first hundred days in office, Roosevelt took concrete and immediate steps. The first thing he set out to accomplish was to create the New Deal to help the people. who are suffering from the economic crisis are finding new ways to find work and earn a living again. He also took steps to halt economic deterioration by involving banks. He did this by declaring a four-day public holiday. The holiday was created to prevent people from withdrawing their money from banks. He made the three Rs. The three Rs stood for: Relief, Reform and Recovery. The relief was intended to provide temporary help to suffering and unemployed Americans. The reform was designed to help the economy rebound from the depression, and the recovery was to target the causes of the depression and seek to prevent a crisis like this from happening again. These measures made it possible to avoid a new depression and to insure citizens against economic disasters.
