Essay / Rhetorical Analysis of “Do Armed Civilians Arrest the Masses…
Several examples show that these armed civilians simply arrested the suspects once the shootings had already occurred. Yet other examples have highlighted the fact that armed civilians have been injured or even committed suicide while attempting to intervene. The author did not include in his examples any situation that led to an outcome that would have actually prevented these shootings. This further caused his audience to agree with his point of view in these cases. The author repeatedly showed his audience how these armed citizens failed to prevent mass shootings. This would slowly persuade his readers that his opinion is correct as they continue reading the examples given. My favorite rhetorical element of this article is the title itself. The author starts off with a bang by placing his own opinion right in the title. This gives his readers a clear picture of the message he is trying to convey to them. They may know his position on the controversy before even reading a word he said.
