    “To teach or not to teach grammar in primary school: that is the question” English is the second language in Malaysia and has been included as an official curriculum and taught from primary school onwards. These subjects must be taken by all students from years one to five, enabling students to acquire the English skills needed to meet the challenges of a future career. A student's level of English is generally measured by their ability to listen, speak, read and write. English can be a very feared subject at school. According to experience and observation in high school or primary school, the English subject is the lack of attention on the part of students. Why did this happen? If you are a student, try to ask yourself if you like the English subject? If you are used to using English at home, this topic is of course not a difficult subject for you. However, this subject will pose a challenge for students if there is no advice from parents or those around them. If all parties concerned care about the importance of English, the problems faced by students can be avoided. We are aware that learning grammar in the classroom plays an important role in establishing students' usage of English. But it is much less attention and emphasis than Functional English which requires more students to write an essay and speak in English and consequently many Malaysians who are not able to make correct sentences in English. At the beginning of learning English, mastering grammar is very important because it is a basic guide for students. Indeed, we use grammar every time we read or write or even when we speak. Grammar gives all the rules on how to put words together in sentences. Use the edge......the middle of the paper......in these numbers or words. In conclusion, of course, teachers know the rules of grammar, but it's one thing to know them, and another thing to know them. teach them effectively and send them to students to not only understand the rules but also apply them correctly. In some areas, teachers and students do not need a book to learn and teach English grammar. At least not in teaching English as a second language. That’s not what the students are there for. They don't want to know all these rules, they're not interested. They want to learn English. They want to speak, read and write in English. So how can we, as ESL grammar teachers, teach them what is important and give them what we need, instead of boring them to death with the rules contained in hokum grammar herself. It's actually quite simple to teach grammar in context and in a fun way.
