The parallel between "Cathedral" and "A&P" Raymond Carver with "Cathedral" and "A&P" by John Updike are two short stories, although in fact they are written in the same century, readers may interpret the changes that occurred as being truly different. They both feature characters who are victims of stereotypes from the protagonists, but somehow these characters have brought a great change in the protagonists' view of the world and life. The stories differ in their atmosphere and the number of people involved in each story, which can be important for understanding how changes occur. The audience can understand after analyzing these two stories that change is always possible and that depending on your action, a lesson must always be learned, in the easiest or hardest way. The story "Cathedral" took place in a family home with only the husband, the wife, and finally the blind man, the wife of the story can be characterized as a static character who also attempted suicide in the past. Unlike the short story "A&P", the event took place in a grocery store with Sammy, the three girls and finally the manager who is also a static character, nothing special with him, just the typical manager "man" . The short story "Cathedral" has as its protagonist a married man who has difficulty connecting with people and even with his wife, and he seems to have problems, perhaps a little jealous of the connection his wife is able to make. establish with other people. "A&P" is about Sammy, an eighteen-year-old boy who works in a grocery store and hates his job. The two stories do not express the same stereotypical values, the husband in "Cathedral" is stereotyped against blind people, and he seems to have made up his mind about how all blind people are, so in the middle of... paper.. ....b.
