Essay / Privacy V. Security - 805
For years the people have fought for the power and freedom to govern and live freely and together as a strong and united nation, but due to recent events, our nation and our opinions have become more distant and distant. It seems like the main focus among people is on whether or not we should be pro-security or pro-privacy. And of course there are those who look both ways and sit in the middle. But, right now, what does our nation really need to stay strong and protected against the threats that wait inside and outside our gates? This is what I will discuss in my essay. I will cover both sides of the argument by providing evidence showing why pro-security or pro-privacy people would feel the way they do. But ultimately, I will make my point as a pro-security person. My main arguments will be about whether security is more important than privacy, the impact of less security, and why telling people more about what the government is doing will be bad for the nation. privacy, there is this belief that the government has failed to protect the privacy of citizens or that the government itself has done too much, to the point that people, in a sense, want the government to back down and gives them more freedom to do what they do every day without feeling like someone is always watching them. But what is privacy without security? This is what I would ask of someone who is pro-privacy. I would also tell them to imagine this example: if you were on your computer and you put files and other things that you wouldn't want others to see, you would have some form of security in place to prevent the people to access it. ..... middle of paper ......ama would have been allowed to happen. So just because the NSA and other companies that watch over us prevent threats from happening, can they monitor us? If I was asked this question, I would have to take a moment to think about how that wouldn't make things better. If the government wasn't able to look out for us, who knows how bad the world would be right now. I believe that if we had more security in place and if the government had more freedom of oversight, part of me thinks that events like Sandy Hook, the Aurora shootings, and the recent shipyard shootings would have could have been avoided. Because we don't usually expect tragedies like these to happen in our backyard. But it does and until the government is able to analyze the information collected without disturbing the public, events like these will be more likely to be avoided..
