  • Essay / Jackie Robinson: the first African-American baseball...

Jackie was the grandson of a slave and the fifth child of a sharecropper who abandoned his family. Jackie was married on February 10, 1946 at the Independent Church in Los Angeles. Jackie Robinson became a dad on November 18, 1946 and his name was Jackie Robinson Jr. Jackie wasn't the only talented family member. His brother, Mac, was an Olympic runner and even finished second to Jesse Owens. Jackie had an awesome wife, Rachel, because through all the tough times, she always stayed by his side and helped him get through all the mean comments and mean-spirited letters in MLB. Jackie was also a great father and spent a lot of time with his children when he was not at school.
