    Food is something we all need to survive, but often it is much more than that. Food is a way to connect with our heritage, celebrate and relive memories. Some foods bring back a thousand memories while others are simply repulsive. Whether it's cinnamon rolls or chocolate cake, we all have a favorite food. When someone asks us to describe ourselves, our favorite foods are used to describe who we are. Food can change a bad day, food can be the highlight of your day. The food is excellent. I would say that Canadians are mostly local food eaters, as 75-80% of my diet was Canadian produced or grown food. Most of the grains and wheat we eat are grown in Canada, as are cheeses and some vegetables. Imported or global foods would include some fresh fruits and vegetables. For example, the banana I eat every day is imported from Guatemala. Additionally, the celery and carrots I eat as a daily snack were imported from California. However, some Canadians may be primarily international consumers because they eat traditional foods imported into Canada from other countries. I eat a lot of South Asian food myself, but the majority of ingredients are grown or produced in Canada, like lentils and beans. Some exceptions would be spices like Garam Masala or Turmeric which are imported from India. Considering my own diet and generalizing it to most Canadians, I would say it's not really a problem because the majority of foods I eat are Canadian. However, I would add that I am vegetarian and the percentage of foods grown or produced in Canada would perhaps vary significantly for someone who is neither vegetarian nor vegan. Some meats in the grocery store are imported from middle of paper...and what kind of lifestyle I believe is healthy. In other cases though, food shapes who I am. As explained above, I often cook fusion foods that reflect my Indian heritage in North American foods. The type of food I buy also shapes who I am. Again, I consider myself quite health conscious and that is why when I am at the grocery store I try to make wise choices by reading the labels because it is important for me to be aware of what is happening in your body.
