  • Essay / Emotional Intelligence: The Importance of Emotional Intelligence...

First of all, high levels of emotional intelligence are necessary in teamwork-related activities. When people are able to interact in positive ways, they are more likely to be creative and receptive to ideas from the whole group. Second, 90% of high achievers have high emotional intelligence (“About Emotional Intelligence,” 2011). Thus, it is a benefit and advantage for a person to strive for higher emotional intelligence scores. There are ways in which a person can improve their emotional intelligence. For example, it is helpful to keep a diary and record emotional states over the course of a month. In doing so, a person can track their body and its signals (Mackin, 2006). Another good technique is to use “self-talk,” because what people say to themselves reveals their emotional states, positive or negative (Mackin, 2006). Essentially, the best way to improve emotional intelligence is to increase awareness of personal and social issues.
