  • Essay / Desire to study industrial engineering in operations...

My undergraduate years as a mechanical major successfully provided me with a solid foundation in technical fields and quantitative methods. I would like to further develop my skills and broaden my knowledge in industrial engineering, particularly in advanced studies based on operations research and information systems. By applying an interdisciplinary approach to solving complex engineering problems with specific technical aspects and analyzing managerial and economic factors, I will prepare myself to become an effective industrial engineer or business manager on the global stage. My undergraduate courses taught me the basic concepts of engineering in theory and practice. I chose a set of courses which allowed me to discover the different elements of a multitude of Systems, their theory and their design. I learned Finite Element Analysis with ANSYS, modeling mechanisms in Robotics. I particularly enjoyed modeling feedback control systems on electrical, mechanical and electromechanical systems because of its interdisciplinary approach. I learned to use MATLAB extensively, using it in IT solutions and for robotics programming. Through the course experience, I became proficient in applying various tools like AUTOCAD, CATIA and Pro-Engineer from Engineering Graphics. During my production techniques class, we analyzed various manufacturing processes as a group while interpreting the results of the laboratory experiments we conducted. Using MINITAB, a statistical software tool, we generated reports that demonstrated the effect of certain parameters on the efficiency of the entire operation. By carrying out this exercise, in addition to following the mathematical modeling, I realized to what extent ... middle of paper ...... it can adapt me to technological developments. In addition, it opens up opportunities for me to work on complex engineering systems, in addition to giving me the pride of having worked with the best people, in my field of interest. I see a possible match with Dr. George C. Runger's research on data mining. The descriptions of Dr. Teresa Wu's work in modeling and simulation systems also match my interests. I am open to working with other professors involving all facets of information and management systems. I find that my experience lacks knowledge in certain areas. However, my motivation to succeed is reflected in my academic preparation, my experience and my vision for the future. I believe these attributes, combined with my defined goal and desire to gain an in-depth knowledge of industrial engineering, will guide my success as a graduate student at Arizona State University..
