  • Essay / Persuasive Essay on Adoption Against Abortion - 2145

This seems like an immeasurable political fight. Abortion versus adoption, why more women choose to abort their babies rather than give them up for adoption. It is true that the process of aborting an unborn baby costs less than adopting one, however, this is only true for the adoptive family. “Depending on the state of your pregnancy, the cost of an abortion varies between $500 and $2,000” (“Abortion or Adoption”). It is true that some insurance plans will cover most, if not all, of the cost of the abortion if it is considered a medical emergency. Conversely, most abortions are the mother's choice and are not considered a medical need. That being said, the mother is responsible for paying in full for the abortion. “There is no cost to you if you choose adoption. In fact, pregnancy-related expenses are paid by the adoptive family, which often include medical care and living expenses” (“Abortion or Adoption”). Birth mothers do not have to pay anything to place their baby with an adoptive family. That being said, the adoption process is essentially cheaper in the long run for the birth mother. The question arises: why do so many women still choose to have an abortion? “Some mothers choose abortion over adoption because they think they won't have to worry about where their baby will be for the rest of their lives” (Brown, 2012). In cases like this, open adoptions are the best solution without an abortion. If more mothers were informed about the different types of adoption, then perhaps more mothers would choose adoption over adoption.
