  • Essay / Character Analysis of Guy Montag - 692

Jalen BlanchardMrs. ShayEnglish II13, January 2013Guy Montag and the changing world around himPeople change and so does the world. Nothing stays the same and that's why we are who we are today. Montag is no longer the same as he was at the beginning of the story. One of Bradbury's best novels, Fahrenheit 451, Montag is determined to achieve his goals no matter what he has to do. Guy Montag changes but not in the way he would have imagined, he is still the same person, but with different beliefs. At the beginning of the novel, Montag is a firefighter who loves his job. In this society, firefighters don't put out fires, they start them. They burn all the books and all the houses with books, and anyone who chooses to stay with the books. It's easy to tell this guy loves his job by the way he lingers around the fire station after a long day of work. He takes his time in the shower, then he carefully hangs up his gear and takes his time going home (Bradbury 2.) Montag is who he thinks he wants to be and he doesn't believe anything can change him. He is not willing to change his ways because he is happy the way he is and he thinks he is living life the way it should be. Until a young woman named Clarisse tells him that at first he thinks she's stupid and not worth his time, but little does he know that this girl has already started to change his whole point view on the meaning of life. about Montag begins to question life and his attitude towards everything he thought was correct before no longer seems correct. He is disturbed by Clarisse's death and has no one to turn to for advice and guidance, until he finds a new mentor, Faber. Faber not only helps him question the things he believed in, but he explains ...... middle of paper ...... someone change that. He stands for what is right and he won't let anyone change that. Montag completely changed his perspective. He was thinking about his wife when the town caught fire, but he and his new friends were all a little sad, they just saw their whole lives disappear. They all knew things would be better and different, and they just wanted to move on. Montag changes in his way of thinking, he is the same person, but with different beliefs. He is still the confident, outgoing and intelligent man he was before he met Clarisse. But instead of changing all that, he changed his beliefs. He was always very frank about his new belief. His whole life was turned upside down, but he still managed to keep the same morals as a person. So, is he really a different person, or have his eyes just opened to the world ??
