Essay / First impression of the start of university life
After the first weeks of university, my perspective changed a bit. When I got here, I really wanted to learn as much as I could and make that my main goal, partly because I thought that was really the only thing people should get out of college. Now that I have a few weeks of studying under my belt, my thinking has changed a bit. I began to realize how important the social aspect of college is and how much of a difference it can make in my daily activities. I'm also really starting to appreciate the spiritual aspect of Malone. I love the floor Bible studies we do and the chapels are beautiful. I love the fact that in every lesson the teacher can almost always relate it to God and His greatness. Education remains my primary goal, but I am beginning to realize the importance of other goals as well. Say no to plagiarism. The first week of class, none of us knew each other very well and our room was relatively quiet. We all stayed in our rooms and studied or watched TV, not interacting much. But eventually, we started taking small steps outside of our comfort zones and getting to know each other. It totally changed the feel of our lobby and everything we do as a flooring business. We eat meals together, watch TV, and have become very good at helping each other procrastinate! One of the girls living next to me has magnetic Scrabble tiles on her door, and we've been known to stand there for a good 20 minutes trying to find a really long word. Making friends outside of my dorm has been a little harder, but can be just as rewarding. Starting conversations with people I don't know has never been my strong point, but I've been trying to work on it throughout my first few weeks here. Talking to people in my classes can make the time much more enjoyable and can be especially helpful when I don't understand something in class. Another thing I really underestimated is the impact the last few weeks have had on my faith. I arrived knowing that Malone is a Christian university, but I didn't really think about how it would impact my daily life. My RA is so supportive of all the girls on my floor and loves spending time with us and listening to us. We have a weekly floor Bible study that really brings us closer to each other and to God. I learned so much from the girls in the few weeks I was here that I didn't expect to learn. I am so grateful to be able to spend time with such amazing girls who are helping me grow in my relationship with God more than I ever imagined. Another thing here that I really enjoyed were the chapels. It's really nice to get away from all the studies and activities for a while and spend time worshiping God. I also like the diversity of the chapels. I like variety because it breaks up what can be the monotony of worship. Sometimes people can become complacent in their faith and become accustomed to one way of doing things. I know I can do it sometimes, and I like being forced out of that bubble. Every time I go to chapel, I'm not really sure what I'm going to get. One of my favorite chapels was Compassion International. The guys had amazing stories to tell and.
