  • Essay / Why is Christopher Columbus an interesting man?

104 men were on board. after a little over a month of sailing, Columbus and several crew members set foot in what is now the Bahamas, claiming it was Spain. 1493 was Columbus' second expedition and further explored the Caribbean Ocean. Columbus discovered a few interesting things on this voyage: the colony of Navidad had been destroyed and all the sailors on board had been massacred. he imposed a labor policy on the native population to explore for gold, thinking it would prove profitable. Columbus grew to hate the small quantities of gold produced by the native population. It was not until his third voyage that Columbus reached the continent, but the colony of Hispaniola had been deceived by Columbus's claims of his brothers' wealth and misrule. from there, Columbus was arrested and stripped of his authority. the charges were eventually dropped but he lost his title as governor, much of the wealth accumulated during his term.
