Grandparents are generally perceived by grandchildren as the person with whom they spend school holidays or for festive celebrations such as Christmas. Grandparents are also known to be the preservers of family traditions. They take responsibility for passing on the knowledge and stories of family traditions and history to their grandchildren. When family households consist of three generations, grandchildren perceived grandfathers as a mentor or companion while their fathers worked and grandmothers as the person who runs the house alongside mothers. In such a relationship, grandparents naturally instill a sense of belonging and identity in grandchildren (Timonen et al., 2009, p. 134). In recent decades, modern family life has become more demanding on parents. As a result, we see that grandparents have taken on a much larger and more challenging role in providing for their family. The role of grandparents in caring for their grandchildren is often expected due to family traditions and even culture (The Changing Role of Grandparents, 2010). However, statistics have shown a surprising increase in the number of grandparents taking on the key role of providing childcare support to support their families (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2006 cited in Ochiltree, 2006, p. 3; ; Glaser et al., 2013, pp. 8-9). This article attempts to explore the key role of grandparents in childcare and how this role has become important in today's society. I will first explain the scope of grandparental child care and the elements of the modern family relevant to this discussion. Subsequently, I will explore how the elements of the modern family are connected and related to the important middle of the paper......as grandchildren are bound to affect grandparents physically, emotionally and even emotionally. Fortunately, the UK government is waking up to the role grandparents play in society and recognizing the importance of their contribution. Although offers and initiatives are being made to support grandparents by offering rewards for their contributions, it is also recommended that the government look into issues related to childcare as it is a major factor pushing parents to continue to rely on grandparents for the care of their children. Childcare should be made accessible and affordable for all parents and considered a crucial social protection issue. With continued government support to meet childcare expenses and rewarding grandparents for their help, parents and grandparents will be able to focus and better fulfill their roles at work and at home. the house..
