    Iran and Nuclear ProliferationOn February 11, 2010, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said in a speech on the occasion of the anniversary of the Islamic Revolution, that Iran had produced its first package of highly enriched uranium. This was declared two days after the process began earlier in the week. President Ahmadinejad said during his speech that Iran had succeeded in enriching uranium to twenty percent and had the capacity to achieve purity of more than eighty percent. (Flintoff) The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has advised the United States and other United Nations (UN) Security Council countries on the possibility of an advanced nuclear development program in Iran. Iran has always been reluctant to work with IAEA inspectors to reveal its nuclear program. UN countries, like the United States, view these actions as a threat to the national interests of the Middle East region. (Garcia-Navarro) Due to Iran's hesitation and neglect to cooperate with UN demands, the United States and UN Security Council countries should move forward with stricter political and economic sanctions against Iran, specifically against its main dominant party in the country, the Iranian Revolutionary.
