Essay / The risk of cervical damage during an abortion - 1080
There are many risks associated with an abortion which the patient is informed of before undergoing the operation (“abortion”). Cancer is one of the risks. Women with a history of a single abortion have a 2.3 times higher risk of developing cervical cancer and when the woman has had two or more abortions, the risk rises to 4.92 times. These increased rates of post-abortion cancer may be linked to disruption of hormonal changes or stress on the immune system (“abortion”). Another risk is uterine perforation, which affects two to three percent of all abortion patients, although most go undiagnosed. Damage to the uterus can lead to a variety of problems later in life, with pregnancies potentially leading to fetal malformations, prenatal death, and excessive bleeding during labor (“abortion”). The risk of cervical injury during an abortion is higher for adolescents and for women having second trimester abortions ("Abortion"). If the patient suffers from chlamydia at the time of the abortion, 23% of them develop pelvic inflammatory disease in just four weeks. Other risks include endometriosis, which is a post-abortion risk for all waking people. Adolescent girls are 2.5 times more likely to contract the disease than women over 20 (“abortion”). Of all the complications related to abortion, there are eight that are extremely common (DeCharney). These include infection, excessive bleeding, tearing or perforation of the uterus, complications of anesthesia, seizures, hemorrhage, cervical injury and endotoxic shock. . It is very important to be aware of all the risks before making a decision with the doctor. It is also very important to pay close attention to the side effects of an abortion.
