  • Essay / History of Chemistry Through the Ages - 792

The history of chemistry dates back from ancient times to the present day. Ancient civilizations used technologies that would form the basis of different branches of chemistry around 1000 BC. For example, they extracted chemicals from plants to make medicines. The history of chemistry is closely linked to the history of thermodynamics. Chemistry is very important for our world today. Without it, we would not be as advanced as we are. Take the example of scientists. Scientists from St. Jude Children's Research Hospital; Every day they work to find the cure for different types of cancer by mixing different chemicals and making various compounds to somehow help all the kids with today's big C word. Chemistry plays an important role in things we would never have thought of. Before chemistry, I would say society was a mess. We didn't know the periodic table of elements. Which is honestly mind-blowing considering the elements make up almost everything around us. People today will live much longer than they did back then, because chemistry is what helps us discover all our medicines, vaccines, etc. We didn't know about DNA. It is the carrier of all our genetic information. Without chemistry, we would not have had liquid oxygen, which is rocket fuel. Without it, the space race would never have happened. This means we would have no satellite TV or internet. Without the Internet, I wouldn't be writing this chemistry article right now. Without chemistry, we wouldn't have cell phones. Without cell phones, today's teenagers simply wouldn't know what to do with themselves. It's one thing after another. The world needs chemistry! The natural resources involved in chemistry would be... middle of article...... working towards a cure for cancer, let's keep trying and trying, who is here to say that we won't have one on the road in ten years. That would be so awesome! In summary, without chemistry we would be absolutely nowhere today. Our technology is so ridiculously advanced that I don't see how it could get any more advanced. But yet our scientists keep trying to come up with some crazy new invention that is supposed to make our world a better place. From my point of view, our world cannot go further than it currently is. But chemistry continues to amaze me and hasn't failed yet. So I'm very interested to see what the chemists of the world are going to work on for the next big thing. Finally, to summarize this article, chemistry makes our world go round. Without it we would still be sitting in the dark.
