Essay / Case Study: AtekPC Project Management Office - 702
CASE STUDY: AtekPC PMOAtekPC PMO: PMO stands for Project Management Office. It was founded in 1984 and has become one of the standard American PC manufacturers, with approximately 2,100 employees and revenue of $1.9 million in 2006. Purpose of PMO: 1. Traditionally, the PMO is introduced because it can meet the need for discipline in IT project management.2. Depending on the case, the primary use of PMO is to ensure standardization of large-scale project management and also to improve performance and planning of initiatives.3. It also helps in enriching skills in project management, authority over large/complex projects, progress and governance of an organization.4. The case reveals that PMO is also used to track planned benefits and target underperforming projects for advice or completion.5. It is also used to communicate the benefits of consistent project practices to everyone in the organization. Missions of the PMO: There are many different missions within the PMO depending on the case. Since most of them are not finalized, let's talk about the two main missions of PMO.1. The very first mission of the PMO is cost reduction. This is the basis even if it is a short-term objective of this mission. According to this, since we cannot spend more money, they must be very careful in using resources.2. The second mission is to become more adaptive, agile and more creative in introducing new products. Functions: The functions of the PMO are divided into two different categories, namely 1. Project-oriented: It focuses on responsibilities such as training, consulting, consultancy, etc., which ensure the success of each individual project .2. Enterprice Oriented: This focuses on services that can improve projects like PM sta...... middle of paper ......ting success.2. As stated, PMO imposes many changes among employees to achieve short-term goals, which is a hindrance if we implement only this model.3. Thus, a combination of both models will achieve long-term goals that will also improve trust among colleagues.4. This will help us manage many of the cultural issues caused during implementation by allowing staff to adapt, understand and accept the changes.5. This will also help in resolving personnel issues as the organization will be able to hire the current managers instead of new employees and train them as the company wants to reduce costs.6. This will also have an effect on governance. I think this can be one of the best recommendations that can help John Strider move forward with PMO implementation at AteckPC..
