  • Essay / The Ugly Duckling - HC Andersen - 709

Literature and all the ways in which it can be read, analyzed and interpreted are very interesting. Stories and books can be looked at from different perspectives, making each one unique. I chose to write about the ugly duckling, because it has long been one of my favorite fairy tales, "The Ugly Duckling". " is the story of the life of Hans Christian Andersen. The way he structured the action and draws parallels between how the ugly duckling is present in the adventure and what he himself was able to feeling through the challenges of his own life, from the beginning of the adventure, when the last and largest egg hatches, to the end of the story, when the "duckling" finds himself surprisingly accepted by all the animals. We can identify the events of the duck with the experiences that Andersen himself had in his own life. My problem then is how is Andersen's life reflected in the fairy tale Hans? Christian Andersen, born into a poor family, grew up constantly bullied by others due to his tall figure. At a young age, he left Odense for Copenhagen to begin a career in acting. facing many challenges which caused him to be rejected by the theater, just like the ugly duckling was rejected from the group of ducks because of his appearance. It is clear that many of the events and challenges that the author created for the little duckling reflect these difficult times in his own life. He was ridiculed for his awkward appearance and had to survive on his own while struggling to ignore his rejection. received so often. In the fairy tale, the cat played the role of people in Andersen's life. The character was negative towards everything the duck was trying to say by contradicting it. The cat believed that the duckling was in the middle of paper...... by his friends Hermione and Ronny, and is very grateful to them because he never had friends before. This is very similar to how the ugly duckling discovers that he is not an ugly duckling but a beautiful swan who is welcomed with open wings by the other swan. Both stories show themes of prejudice. The duckling and Harry are looked down upon by their families due to traits they cannot control, this is the theme of prejudice. Additionally, the duck and Harry are followed by us, with the reader following them throughout their journey and struggle. Both start their lives at the lowest, until they reach a point in their lives where everyone admires them and is praised for how good they are. The answer to the problem is found throughout the text. The way he wrote the fairy tale and all the scenarios the little duckling goes through can describe Andersen's life well..
