Essay / Gender Inequalities - 1444
In the 21st century, many people believe that we have overcome the obstacle of gender inequality and evolved into a society of fairness and righteousness. As many know, women can be just as competent and qualified as men in any task. Although some efforts are in place to compensate for this gender imbalance, it is still commonly accepted that many careers are considered to be reserved for men, such as lawyers, and women, such as secretaries. Gender inequality is a visible fact in our society and in this essay I hypothesize that gender inequality still exists due to factors such as differences in post-secondary education between the two gender, the role of women in families, the objectification of women, differences in career choices. of both sexes, and finally the double standard between the two sexes. A closer look at the postsecondary education of the two sexes reveals many differences. According to Statistics Canada (2001), 58 percent of university degrees are acquired by women, contrary to the historical trend where there are more men with degrees than women. Before the invention of highly effective contraceptive methods such as the birth control pill, women pursuing professional education required a costly, long-term commitment as well as abstinence and avoidance of dating (Maass, Vera Sonja, 2009). Although many women have moved away from stereotypically feminine jobs such as secretaries and nurses, the number of women in jobs involving long hours, high physical demands, mathematics or engineering is far lower than the number of men . The reason is that many women do not spend many years pursuing very high education due to the traditional perception that women have a stronger family orientation than most men......mid 'article ......pursue a graduate degree. Although our society is based on equality and fairness for all, regardless of gender, past customs of gender stereotypes are still commonly observed in matters of employment and social equality of both sexes. The salary of female workers is greatly affected by their level of education, their role in the household, the prejudice and objectification of women, the career of their choice and the double standards imposed on both sexes. This social inequality has affected the lives of many women in the past and will affect even more women in the future. Communities, governments, and many organizations have developed strategies to address gender inequality, such as scholarships for women, government benefits for single mothers, and affirmative action, which is simply the process aimed at trying to compensate for the imbalance between the sexes..
