But they would be wrong, gangsters played an important role in the 1930s, whether they were kidnapping someone, killing people or smuggling, every gangster had a role. Of these three men, Al Capone would probably be the most famous gangster who ever lived. . Almost everyone who has had a slight interest in gangsters or watched a lot of old movies has heard of him. Al Capone rose to fame by rising through the ranks within an already well-known gang and eventually took over. All the cops were paid to look the other way, he robbed banks and of course he killed people. He could have retained his hold on Chicago if he had not tried to expand his territory ( ).
