  • Essay / Unity in diversity: holding the world together through...

Ella, a first-year university student, has a Thai roommate. Although they come from different countries, thousands of miles apart, over time they also realize how connected they are. Once Ella finally received her clothes, which she had ordered online, she looked at the label to check if it was the right size. As she did so, Ella noticed that the dress was made in Thailand. She was fascinated by the coincidence of having ordered a dress made in the same country of origin as her roommate. She then realized that from now on, she was no longer tied to Thailand just because of her roommate. She acknowledged that she is now in contact with many other Thai citizens who influenced the making of the dress she ordered. Now she was not only happy because she had received her dress, but she was also happy about how it had connected and influenced the personal lives of people living thousands of miles away from her. The situation above is an example of how we encounter people and connected objects in countless other places all over the world. We sometimes don't realize how the things we see every day are connected to the outside world. In the example above, Ella also didn't initially realize how connected she could be to the lives of people around the world. When we look at different things, we usually don't associate them with how they are connected to the outside world. We usually focus on the final product itself, but also don't make a connection to its origins. It's not just about products. There are many other things and even places that associate us with the outside world, although they may initially be invisible to us. When we think about global connectivity in our local society, we usually think of a place... middle of paper...... preventing them from using it completely. Therefore, when we use pharmaceutical products, we are linked to a chain of people across the world. As I returned home, I realized that even though I live in a small town, I am connected to the world in many ways on different levels. times. However, we rarely notice the connections we have. We reflected on how Ella realized her connection to Thailand when she noticed her clothes were made there. Even in a small town, we managed to discover how our connections with the outside world influence the lives of different people. Many of the things we do in our locality shape the personal lives of people thousands of miles from us. Therefore, even though we categorize the places and things we pass through daily as local places or things, there can be many global connections giving us a sense of unity in diversity..
