Lead with visionAll businesses must have a vision, without one it is difficult to create goals. As a leader in any business, it is important that we know the company's mission, vision, and goals in order to model them for our teams. Good organizations convey a strong vision of their future situation. (MODYUKE) Creating appropriate goals to drive the vision is vital to the success of any business. Goal setting is an important role in sharing vision and goals with the team. Gaining their buy-in and commitment will ultimately help create effective teams. As leaders, it is also important that we follow up with our teams and provide coaching and training when necessary. Leaders must also remember that “leadership is about inspiring others to actually want to achieve a goal.” (Mod 4) All of this together will create well-informed teams working towards the same goals for the business. The Importance of Vision and Goal Setting as a Leader According to the US Army Manual, there are four characteristics of goal setting. The first two are difficulty and specificity of objectives. It is important that the goal is achievable and sufficiently challenging. Too little or too much can lead to decreased motivation as well as productivity. In our previous modules we learned that specific recognition is more beneficial than general recognition, the same is true when setting goals. Clearly defined goals will lead to better results because the team member knows the expectations and knows how to achieve them. According to the U.S. Army Manual, the third and fourth characteristics of goal setting are feedback and participation in goal setting. A good leader provides honest and timely feedback. For the most part, ...... middle of paper ...... successful companies sell the company's vision with positive energy and a contagious can-do attitude. (MOD) Additionally, highly skilled team members who participate in their goal-setting process are likely to achieve their goals and perform well in their positions. Including leaders who are positive and passionate about their goals will further create a positive environment to achieve the goals set by the company. ReferencesAccenture, (2014).
