    I have always been fascinated by the written word, whether on television or in a magazine, the way we communicate our ideas and emotions through the 27 characters of the English language is a feat in itself. This is one of the many reasons I chose Production Media Studies as one of my majors at Temple University. I am excited to study media arts at the School of Media and Communication and plan to use my skills to serve the world at large. Although words and written media were a focus of my concentration, I had limited exposure to the production aspect of my internship. Courses like Introduction to Media Technology, Media and Society, and Introduction to Media Theory really helped me understand the inner workings. When applying to Temple, I felt the need to pursue my love of writing, and yet, I felt a responsibility to uphold the nine principles. A year-long commitment linked to my own love for music as well as the scholarship investment made to me on behalf of the Jazz department. With the financial challenges I face due to the ever-increasing cost of higher education, music gave me the opportunity to start saving at a young age. By the age of 10, I had won my first prize as a jazz saxophonist. Five years later, I had received regional and national accolades for my skills as a jazz musician; With scholarships ranging from $50 to $2,000, I was better prepared financially for college than the average 15-year-old. However, at the time I had not received such awards to show my skills as a writer, so the following year I focused my efforts on writing a book. So, one year, two mentors and a box of Acco® solid brass fasteners later. I was standing on a stage in Florida to receive the national silver medal in the NAACP ACT-SO competition (having previously received gold regionally) for my short play entitled In the Name of the Son - a drama about the love, pain and acceptance. From that point on, I had the opportunity to participate in the Young Writer's Workshop at the University of Virginia and work for Encompass, an extraordinary organization dedicated to teaching teachers how to create safe and secure learning environments. fun based in Pasadena, California. However, all of this couldn't compare to the 9 years of experience I had gained in music by then - and so I decided to apply to university with music in the hope of pursuing writing as a second specialization. However, when I finally arrived at Temple, my passion for music began to turn into frustration. I had people who were investing in an educational path in which I no longer saw a future.
