Before being registered, students must read the Code of Conduct and demonstrate that they understand its terms. The contract sets out zero tolerance for classroom misbehavior, cheating, drug abuse, etc. If you are caught cheating, you will be automatically expelled from school. They are free to punish you as they see fit, reasonably since the government is not involved. This is why teachers don't need to spend time shutting down side conversations between students in class. They are well aware of the possible outcomes and that teachers will not hesitate. There are rarely any issues regarding student misbehavior because they are aware and mature enough not to violate the code of conduct. Private schools are very strict when it comes to disciplinary measures. With an ever-increasing number of school shootings, safety becomes an important factor in ensuring students feel comfortable and accepted. The Bureau of Justice Statistics and the National Center for Education Statistics produced a report asking students if they fear being threatened while going to or returning from school. 5.1% of public students have been threatened. Only 0.9% of private school students encountered this problem (Roper). Private schools are much safer due to low enrollment numbers. Bullying is detected much earlier in private schools than in public schools. Students also build stronger connections with teachers through advisors, so it feels natural to talk to them. Private schools also hire consultants to provide lessons on bullying and many other issues that children will face.
