In the era of global economy, the world is free of national borders and borderless. In a multinational organization or multicultural country like Australia, employees are diverse in ethnicity, gender, age, and culture (Strachan, French, and Burgess 2010, p. 18). Diversity means forms of personal differences, including ethnic, gender, and age (Strachan, French, and Burgess 2010, p. 18). In a globalized market, companies require managers to understand cultural diversity. Therefore, employing labor from different countries becomes an obligation. However, this leads to problems and discrimination is the biggest; ethnicity, gender and age are issues up for debate (Dipboye and Halveson, 2004, p. 131). Ethnic origin is the first aspect to be debated. In one survey, 28 percent of blacks had personally experienced workplace discrimination and 55 percent responded that their coworkers had been discriminated against (Dipboye & Halveson, 2004, pp. 131). In comparison, only 13 percent of Whites have suffered from discrimination and only 6 percent responded that their co-workers had suffered from discrimination (Dipboye and Halveson, 2004, pp. 131). Thus, workers who are not white can easily become targets of discrimination. Discrimination can take different forms, such as negative behavior, preferential or unfair payment, refusal of promotion (Dipboye and Halveson, 2004, pp. 136). In Australia, indigenous people are often treated unfairly. They have low labor force participation rates, high unemployment rates, and low incomes (Strachan, French, and Burgess 2010, p. 26). In comparison, the unemployment rate for Aboriginal Australians is around three times that of other races (Strachan, Fr...... middle of paper ...... labor force, so it is difficult for managers to integrate their workforce as a strong The silent generation is seen as resistant to change and less physically capable (Nelson, Quick, Wright, Adams, 2012, pp.24). Leadership positions are held by the baby boomer generation and are considered less creative than Generations X and Y (Nelson, Quick, Wright, Adams, 2012, pp.24). are considered impatient and value lifestyle over work (Nelson, Quick, Wright, Adams, 2012, p. 24). Therefore, I argue that age diversity also poses a challenge for managers. In a globalized market, companies require managers to understand cultural diversity. Therefore, employing workers from different countries becomes an obligation, but it brings problems and difficulties. for managers to effectively manage their business.
