  • Essay / The Effects of Divorce on Children - 2692

IntroductionIn America, approximately one in two marriages will end in divorce. About 60% of couples who divorce have children. (Cherlin, 2012). Half of marriages in the United States end in divorce, and more than half of these couples have children, meaning that for every other divorce filed in the United States, one child is involved. Between 850,000 and 950,000 divorces occur each year. (National Center for Health Statistics, CDC., 2014). Knowing that around 60% of couples who divorce have at least one child, at least 510,000 children are affected each year. Estimates suggest that in the near future, 70% of divorces could involve children under the age of eighteen. (Block, Block and Gjerde, 1986). Due to the large number of American children with broken families, it is important to understand the effects of divorce on children's daily lives so that we can provide for them appropriately and beneficially. consequences that the effect of a divorce can have on a child. Although divorce is not always a positive thing, sometimes there are scenarios in which a family is better off as a result. According to research, the bond maintained between the parent and child is the primary change that plays a role in the child's outcome in divorce. The relationships between parents and their children are found to be more influential than the parents' marital status. Negative effects were zero if relationships remained intact after divorce. However, sometimes the ability to maintain these close relationships just isn't as simple as it was before the divorce. Keeping a relationship intact is especially difficult for the noncustodial parent.
