Essay / Late-term abortion is wrong - 675
Late-term abortion is a very controversial method of abortion after the twentieth week of gestation. There are many different grotesque procedures for performing it. These types of abortions are contradicted by many religions and moral values. Late-term abortions almost devastate some mothers because they have spent so much time being pregnant and establishing an emotional connection with the baby. Some people think it is murder and inhumanity. Late-term abortion should be made illegal because it is morally wrong by many standards of American society. There are many reasons why late-term abortion may be considered immoral. Around the twentieth week of gestation, the baby is practically already formed (Jacobson) and is generally considered a person at this time. This would make it seem like you are killing a baby, which is not morally consistent with the standards of American society, because it is an innocent person. Most believe that the fetus is considered a person either at conception or in the first trimester, which would mean you are violating its right to life by having a late abortion. Additionally, mothers carry their babies in their wombs for a very long time and getting rid of them is wrong in many ways. In mainstream Christianity, abortion is not considered in the Bible, but it is not considered something good. However, the Catholic and Orthodox Church opposes late-term abortion in almost all situations. Hinduism has many varied views on it, but the original and traditional text condemns voluntary abortions. In the Islamic faith, late-term abortion is not permitted as it is an abortion beyond four months of pregnancy. Sikhism forbids late-term abortion because it states that people should not intervene in the middle of a paper...should not be looked down upon. Works Cited Neerhof, Sprang.
