He did not allow others to know of his death "he had decided to bear his secret alone, without any change in his life,...... middle of paper...... laughing, death" ( 92) Senator Sanchez attempts to almost defeat death by falling in love twice, but, due to his own marriage, he is unable to remarry. At the end, Senator Sánchez dies “crying with rage at dying without her.” This again ties in with Vodolagin's article that death is tolerable, it's dying that is hard. Senator Sanchez realizes this when his own happy life is interrupted when he is confronted with the news of her death. Instead of being honest at the end of his life, he decides to continue in his greed. He ends up alienating those with whom he is happy in order to live his truth alone. Also, to commit an act that he knows is bad but which justifies it in order to satisfy his desire and try in his own way to cheat death. In the end he dies alone next to Laura, showing us that death is beyond love, because only birth and death are constant in this life..
