Essay / They clearly yearn for some companionship, and they certainly had the opportunity to establish some when they came across the guard, but they didn't do it for some reason they didn't want to explain. . I will say that sometimes sparking a conversation or friendship can take some courage, so maybe our conversation partner is a coward? To refute this, I must again refer to the third line of our poem “I have passed the farthest city lights” (3). This, in conjunction with his explorations of the "saddest" (4) places in the city, serves to prove that our speaker is in fact courageous. Brave enough to venture where few dare. It is therefore not for lack of courage that they avert their eyes from the guardian, for they are endowed with more courage than most others. They look down because they don't want to explain something, and I would say it's their nocturnal excursions that they don't want to explain, because they are unable to explain that they like to be.
