Essay / Comparing and Contrasting Sociological Theorists Max...
Emile Durkheim, Karl Marx, and Max Weber are all important figures to study in the field of sociology. Each of these sociological theorists contributes to the separation of sociology into its own field of study. The works of these three theorists are very complex and can be considered difficult to understand, but their intentions were not. They have their similarities but also their differences. The first theorist to consider is Karl Marx. Marx has his own uniqueness. His attention was normally directed towards capitalism in society. He studied the foundations of inequalities under capitalism. (Ritzer, 2004) When you examine Marx's work on the dialectical method, you can see one of the differences between his studies and those of Durkheim and Weber. He says: "The dialectical thinker believes that it is not only impossible to keep values out of the study of the social world, but also undesirable, because to do so would produce an impartial and inhumane sociology which has little to do with it. offer to people looking for answers. to the problems they face. (Ritzer, p. 46) I believe this shows the depth of Marx because he is essentially telling us that without your values, when you study sociology, you lose the passion for it. Marx also focused on the alienation of individuals from society due to capitalism. He considered people to be separated from their work. In ancient times, people did a job they were good at and that described them, but after capitalism came into force, their work became a job and was no longer personal. Neither Durkheim nor Weber believed this. This is also a difference between them. (Ritzer, 2004) Marx also tended to delve deeper into the subject of capital and others...... middle of paper ...... with all their different ideas and concepts, it is somewhat difficult to say which thing which, they believed, held society together. I believe the importance of religion made it one of the best choices. Each theorist studied religion and each had their own thoughts on the subject. With their studies, they each show what religion does to maintain the cohesion of society. This is why I say that Max Weber, Emile Durkheim and Karl Marx all see religion as the “glue” that holds society together.ReferencesCline, Austin. Retrieved March 2010.
