A large proportion of all crimes committed in the United States are committed by juveniles. In the United States, there are approximately 73.8 million young people; youth being defined as being under the age of eighteen (CrimeSolutions). The total population of the United States is approximately 317.8 billion, making minors approximately twenty-three percent of the total population (Census Bureau). Although there are not as many juveniles as adults, juveniles represent a large portion of the crimes committed. For violent crimes, approximately twenty percent of crimes are committed by juveniles and twenty-five percent of property crimes (FactSheet). Although the overall number of juvenile offenders has decreased over the years, there is still much to be done to prevent crimes committed by juveniles. There are many different programs to help prevent juveniles from committing crimes or committing a new crime. Many different studies have shown what specific time period juveniles commit crimes most often during the day, which programs help juveniles and which do not, and studies show the gender and race of most youth convicted offenders. committed at any time of day, juveniles and adults differ in the time period when they are most likely to commit a crime.
