The name of the professional organization is the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND). AND was founded in 1917 as the American Dietetic Association in Cleveland, Ohio. AND's goals are: 1) the public trusts and chooses registered dietitians as food and nutrition experts, 2) AND members improve the health of Americans, 3) members and prospective members view the Academy as essential to their success, and 4) members collaborate across disciplines with the international food and nutrition communities. The mission of the AND is to enable its members to become national leaders in food and nutrition. AND goals are divided into topics related to aging, childhood nutrition, diet and food safety, health literacy and nutrition advancement, medical nutrition therapy (MNT ) and Medicare/Medicaid, nutrition surveillance and research, and obesity/overweight/weight management. The goals of the subject of aging for AND are to maximize the impact of the law on older adults, promote the idea of "healthy aging", seek funds for nutrition studies, and develop and supporting programs and services for older people, helping with development. sustainable and effective programs for older people. In the area of child nutrition, AND's goals are to improve nutrition in school food programs as well as WIC, expand school wellness programs, and improve outcomes. In the area of food and food safety, the AND's objectives are to strengthen the government's capacity to guarantee a safe food supply, to provide consumers with accurate information on foods and food supplements, to improve the consumer protection and investing in nutritional education. I was also able to benefit from the Academy newspaper as well as the Food and Nutrition magazine. These two publications have allowed me to stay up to date on research, food products, and trends to better understand changes in the field of dietetics while understanding the most current information. Thus, I believe it would be an excellent choice for me to continue as an active member after becoming a dietitian in the future, as it will give me the ability to keep up with advancements in dietetics while also having the opportunity to actively participate . get involved in the communities I will work in through networking opportunities.
