Essay / Film Adaptation - 1195
Kaufman follows Orléans to Florida, where it is revealed that she had an affair with Laroche and that the two were growing drugs in her orchid nursery. Kaufman is caught spying, leading him and his twin brother to attempt to escape Laroche and Orléans, as they are chased at night through a swamp. Later, Charlie's twin is killed as they try to escape, and an alligator kills Laroche as he prepares to kill Charlie. When Charlie returns to Los Angeles, he finally confesses his love for Amelia, the woman he dreams of throughout the film. Unsurprisingly, she also admits to being in love with him. It’s a very “Hollywood” ending. We can assume that Kaufman is using this ending, because otherwise, how would the film end? It's a film about life, so it's difficult to finish the film while the story is still in progress. So Kaufman uses these shots to show how easy they are to use in order to give viewers the excitement they want and give writers the ending they want.
