    Women wore skirts cut to the thigh and longer coats to the base of the thigh; hence the name “high thigh” (Ewing). In addition to the “thigh high” look, sheer trench coats were also popular. The naked eye could see through the coat to the clothes underneath and the valuables at the bottom of the pocket (Ewing). Women's appearance and perspective changed dramatically when "hot pants" were introduced to the public. “Hot pants” are similar to the short shorts we see today. Because society was content with being correct and the traditions that underpinned it, “hot pants” were frowned upon.
