Essay / In Cold Blood by Truman Capote - 703
The book I read for my non-fiction novel was called “In Cold Blood” by Truman Capote. As a whole, this book was disturbingly realistic, intriguingly interesting, and gruesomely beautiful. While the Clutters go about their daily lives, running errands and baking pies, Dick and Perry prepare to rob the Clutters and leave no witnesses. After a long drive, they arrive at the Clutter house with a shotgun and a knife in hand. That morning, the bodies are discovered and investigations are launched to find the killers and place them where they belong. Soon, rumors begin to take hold in their town, but in the meantime, Dick and Perry leave for Mexico. When Dick and Perry are found and death occurs, Dick is clumsy and Perry is remorseful. Personally, I liked the relationship between Perry and Dick the most in the book. And the best part of the novel is their chemistry, their feelings for each other, everything about them together. The way Capote portrayed and described him was phenomenal and extraordinary. This is the best part of the book because of their difference but their need for each other to survive in the world they live in; because without the other, it wouldn't be worth it. Dick has always had control over Perry. But, in turn, Perry is far braver than Dick could ever be. The best example of this is the night of the murders. Dick came up with the whole plan, but even when Perry wanted to leave, he insisted that they stay there and continue searching for the safe. It is Perry who stops Dick from raping Nancy, but the fact remains that Perry reacted very emotionally to Dick's actions. On the other hand, Dick was operating according to the plan he had come up with and convinced Perry to follow him. While Dick, I...... middle of paper......t by what he was saying. I don't think he could have fixed this without completely changing the story. For a story to truly excite a sixteen year old reading a book, they usually need to be able to relate to the book in some way, or want to be a part of the world the book is set in . I think the target audience because this book is intended for anyone mature enough to read and understand it. It is aimed at people who are looking for a moment of relaxation from the safety of their own home. Adventurous but shy people. Anyone who wants to be afraid for their life but in complete safety. I would definitely recommend this book to others because I was so excited and excited to read it. Personally, I think a good book will rip the emotions out of you and send them on one hell of a journey. And that's exactly what this book did, it made me angry, sympathetic, happy and made me cry.
