  • Essay / English essay - 699

During this semester, the class studied three novels. The first, killing Mr. Griffin, involved five students kidnapping their English teacher, leading to unintended consequences. The second, Go Ask Alice, was about an emotional and distressed teenage girl who goes through a downward emotional spiral that ultimately leads to her death. Finally, One Way is about a teenager mired in legal issues following an unfortunate accident with his "ex" girlfriend. The main theme of all three novels is conflict. This essay will examine the conflict in terms of man versus himself, man versus man, and finally man versus nature. The first type of conflict is man against himself. This is demonstrated by killing Mr. Griffin when Susan agrees to help David with the kidnapping plan. Susan agrees because she really loves David, so stay quiet with him. She therefore becomes a decoy in the kidnapping. Also when Susan wanted to tell the cops after Griffin died. Mr. Griffin's death was caused by the failure of the kidnapping plan. Susan decided to stay silent for the sake of her relationship with David. In Go Ask Alice, this type of conflict is illustrated when Alice decides to abandon the newspaper she considers her best friend. She wants to start fitting in with friends. Three weeks after she stopped using the newspaper, she died. Also when Alice decides to sell LSD to elementary school children. She needs the money, so she wonders if she doesn't do it, who will, but afterwards she feels bad and regrets. In One Way, this type of conflict is illustrated when Kenzie debates hitting Logan. He got angry at Logan's comments about Stassi. So Kenzie hits Logan, leading to legal problems. And also when Mandi wonders whether to push Stassi into Kenzie's bike but ...... middle of paper ......at the wrong time. and also when Stassi is in the hospital, it's a consequence of the accident. they don't know if she will have permanent brain damage, so Man versus Nature is a theme in all three novels. This essay examines the conflict surrounding Mr. Griffin's murder, go ask Alice, and in a sense. Man vs Himself was illustrated when Alice decided to sell LSD to elementary school students for money. She thinks if she doesn't sell it to them, they will, but then feels bad and regrets it. Man versus man was shown when Mark copies a college assignment but gets a zero from Mr. Griffin and finally man versus nature was seen when the stoner kid has a video of Mandy pushing Stassi . The drug addict was video blogging outside the school and filmed the incident. Kenzie now has proof of her innocence, so conflict is the main theme of all three novels..
