  • Essay / Failure of the Communist System - 981

Failure of the Communist SystemThe communist system fell for various reasons. Over time, I don't think this could have been avoided because the communist ideal had a fundamental flaw. He misunderstood human nature. Their ideology was based on every man working to the best of his ability for the good of the nation. However, humans will not work more than necessary and therefore this massive decline in the quality of work in communism led to its downfall as there was no will to work. One of the main reasons communism fell in the 1980s was that over the years the Cold War had drained them of their money. The space race deprived them of 20% of their total national income while they spent billions on defense. This took away a lot of money from their economy that they could have spent on the poor and needy, but since this was not the case, the standard of living of communists, especially in the USSR, declined. This gave communism a bad image and most people disliked it because they saw the riches of the West in contrast to their rags. The war in Afghanistan cut a large portion of their budget ($8 billion per year), which left them severely short-staffed and unable to economically hold the Soviet Empire together. The freedom to do what they wanted appealed to people because the Stalinist regime was fresh in their minds. This saw a glimmer of hope of experiencing democracy when in October 1983, American troops overthrew the regime in Grenada. This further incited people to have feelings of hatred towards the communist system. Another problem with the system was that there was a lot of corruption in the middle of a newspaper... of an intransigent communist government. As you can see. see that these countries were both brought back under Soviet control by force. They both pushed through reforms that the USSR did not like and therefore received a brutal response. However, in the 1980s, the USSR was going through a serious economic crisis. He didn't have the money to deal with the uprisings like before. With the arrival of the new president (Gorbachev), realistic and aware that it was not wise to use the same tactics as his predecessors. They had just withdrawn from Afghanistan, which cost them billions and was condemned internationally. If they started attacking another country, repressing the people, not only would this have a huge impact on the Soviet economy, but the international image would be very shaken and could lead to confrontation..
