Thomas Jefferson was not only our country's third president, but one of the most inspiring men in American history . His life, from his birth to his death, will be explained in the following content and will give you a better understanding of his contributions to the United States and his achievements throughout his very interesting life. Thomas was born in Goachland County, Virginia on April 13, 1743. He lived on the family estate called Shadwell, which was owned and built by Thomas' father, Peter Jefferson. His mother's name was Jane Randolph. She gave birth to Thomas, his seven sisters and a brother. Thomas's father died when he was only fourteen years old. This unfortunately hit Thomas with sadness and depression. Yet Thomas continued to live the life he knew he could live. When his father died, Thomas inherited twenty slaves, but treated them very well. Thomas loved reading biographies. He always loved learning about the people in history who made a difference in the life he lived during that time. Thomas grew up intelligent and loved education. As an adult, Thomas inherits his father's estate. Three years later he married Martha Wayles Skelton. Thomas loved his wife very much and the life he led with her. Martha died about ten years after marrying Thomas. During their happy marriage together, they had 6 children, only two of whom survived to adulthood. A few years later he built an estate called Monticello. He lived in this area for most of his adult life and presidency. After living eighty-three years, Thomas Jefferson died on July 4, 1826 in Charlottesville, Virginia. As for his will, Thomas left his very famous estate to his eldest son.
