  • Essay / The journey to success - 812

“Whether king or peasant, he who finds peace in his home is the happiest,” said Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. For me, home is the place where I feel most comfortable, where I fit in, where I have the feeling of having accomplished something, a bit like Ulysses' house. In Homer's The Odyssey, a man named Odysseus faces many obstacles over a decade as he attempts to bring himself and his crew back to Ithaca, their home. My Ithaca is to get into a good university. Although there are many obstacles that will stand in my way, such as getting good grades, avoiding affiliating with people who are not trustworthy, and finding time to volunteer and help my community, there are also many things that can help me achieve my goals, like support from my friends, help from my teachers, having the right tools to do the job. Getting into a good university would give me a feeling of fulfillment, like all the hard work I've been putting in has finally paid off. Like Ulysses, several things could hinder my chances of getting into a good college, such as trying to get good grades, avoiding affiliating with people who are not trustworthy, and finding time to volunteer and to help my community. Maintaining good grades is very difficult to do, because to get good grades one must choose whether to work hard or have fun and have free time, like Odysseus who must choose to sail past the six-headed monster, Scylla. , and "'and lose six of [his] crew'" or pass Carybdis and eventually pass or "'lose them all at once'" (Homer 140). One choice is obviously better in both cases, in mine it would be to work hard and sacrifice free time because in the long term show dedication in the quality of one's work...... middle of paper ... ...to its objective. My Ithaca needs to be accepted into the college of my choice. There are many obstacles that will stand in my way, such as trying to get good grades, affiliate with trustworthy people, and find time to volunteer and help my community. However, there are also many things that can help me achieve my goals, such as support from my friends, help from my teachers, having the right tools to do the job. Additionally, getting into a good university would give me a feeling of fulfillment, as if all the hard work I have done has finally paid off, resembling Odysseus' dream of reaching Ithaca, his home, where he too will feel the most. comfortable. In conclusion, during the journey to achieve one's goal, there will be challenges and one will need support, nevertheless the result will prevail over all difficulties.Works CitedThe Odyssey
