Essay / The Sri Guru Nanak Darbar Gurdwara - 1433
The Sri Guru Nanak Darbar Gurdwara was produced from cast-in-place reinforced concrete and stone panels designed to support loads, such as the external skin of the cavity wall. Each stone panel rests on top of each other and is bonded with epoxy resin to ensure a weather-tight seal while attached to the concrete structure with stainless steel fasteners. To ensure that the requirements of Part L are covered, a 100mm cavity filled with high performance insulation between the stone and concrete is present. While referring to CAD drawings produced by Calford Seaden Architects, project architect Mark Stott, described the project as a giant airspace. repair kit. This is due to stonemasons in India who made, cut, shaped and carved large quantities of marble and granite of detailed design and then shipped them to the UK to quarries. These included the large marble domes, extremely decorative stonework and arched windows. Each stone element had a marked reference to allow simple and correct assembly upon arrival on site. The building's columns are carved pieces of stone, which are drilled and wrapped around each classic reinforced concrete column. Stone thicknesses differ, but a minimum of exactly 40mm was set for flat panels, while increasing to 200mm for larger, more ornate panels, some weighing almost a tonne. Due to the weight of these panels, stonemasons from India came to assist with installations to avoid chipping and damaged edges during shipping and so that they could make any modifications or adjustments that might be needed on site. The structure was kept as simple as possible. to enable construction feasibility and efficiency. Overall, conventional in situ control...... middle of paper ......ure Experience | Bedford Gurdwara.
