Essay / Veterans Deserve a Second Chance to Come Home to America
America is the land of opportunity and the land of second chances. People come to America to live a better life, but it's not all it's cracked up to be. When veterans come home, all they want is a second chance at life. They want to come back and be able to pick up where they left off. But the government has done very little to help these veterans. The government believes it has done enough with the programs it has created, but there has not been much change. The purpose of this essay is to discuss my opinion and what I know on this issue, for the benefit of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, which is my target audience. If the government tried hard, as it does on unnecessary problems, there wouldn't be many veterans in trouble. If the government did more to improve all aspects of the veteran reintegration process, many benefits would flow from this action. There are many reasons why we should work to improve the lives of veterans. First, there could be a decrease in suicide rates among veterans and a reduction in substance abuse. Second, fewer veterans and families will have to worry about living with and battling mental illness. Third, by improving the economics of these veterans, more of them will find jobs and fewer will end up homeless on the streets. Finally, the reintegration process will be less difficult for these veterans and they will be able to resume a normal life. This essay is in no way intended to offend, its purpose is to provide a new perspective on this issue, to bring about change for the better. Suicide has always been a problem in the world, but it becomes even more serious when it has to do with our own veterans taking paper courses...and also substance abuse courses. Better health programs for veterans and their families. And improve the jobs programs we already have. I can only emphasize the importance of this subject. I can continue to stress the importance of doing something, but it won't bring us the change we need. We need society, government and especially the Department of Veterans Affairs to work together. This will be a problem that continues for years. But I believe there is something that can be done to improve this problem.
