    There is a part of the film where Chaplin adds a bone cracking sound effect to the musical score. This adds humor as the sound effects emphasize the action of the character on screen and also create laughter from the audience when they successfully synchronize the noise with the screen. The use of sound effects therefore became an advantage for Chaplin. The sound effects would help him in creating his comedy. They would help his scenes add more humor and allow him to experiment. There is also a scene where he uses sound effects for humor as well. The scene where he is sitting next to a socially accepted and respected lady, the minister's wife, drinking coffee. As she drinks the coffee, her stomach begins to rumble. The little tramp does the same and his stomach starts to rumble too. This scene shows a great example of the sound effects created by Chaplin. He filmed himself blowing bubbles through a straw into a glass. This sound effect created uncomfortable gargling noises from their stomachs, adding extra humor to the acting of the scene as we watch the dog get scared. Chaplin turns on the radio next to him and we hear a short commercial for stomach aches. His reactions and facial expressions as well as the sound effects create joyful humor.
