Greece is a small country located on the southern tip of the European Balkan Peninsula. Although a relatively small geographic area, the country was a focal point of power and influence in both the ancient world and today. Greek architects were relentless in their pursuit of perfection, paid meticulous attention to detail, and created many innovations. The methods used were extremely sophisticated and complex, even by modern standards. The techniques used by ancient Greek architects are still used today and are copied around the world. Without exception, the techniques used during this era have had an unequivocal influence throughout the world and form the basis of modern architecture today. From 2000 to 1000 BC, it was the Bronze Age of Greece. This period was considered an influential and momentous time in history, with many powerful and dominant kingdoms across the world. At that time, Greece was inhabited by the Minoans. On the island, the Minoans had palaces that served as economic centers, religious activities, festivals, and political assemblies. Due to numerous natural disasters and earthquakes in the region, the palaces were frequently destroyed and then rebuilt. The citadel emerged, which was a shelter in which people could protect themselves. Inside a citadel were everything from residential quarters to workshops. Greece began to slide into the Dark Ages due to severe economic collapse, natural disasters, and conflicts between leaders. During the Geometric Period (1000-700 BC), Greece emerged from the Dark Ages and began to evolve into the culture now known as the Hellenic culture. .
