General Organization Information Kunihiko Iwadare founded Nippon Electric Company, Limited in 1899 and was renamed NEC Corporation in 1983, all two expressed today as the NEC. This is Japan's first joint venture with foreign capital in association with the American company Western Electric Company (currently Alcaltel-Lucent). Training and Work Assignments I report to the Enterprise Business Solutions (ESBU) department, but I work specifically with the Routing and Switching team. I am deployed offsite to establish network infrastructure for IMDA. The work processes in which I have been involved start during the deployment phase of this project. The first training we received was wireless deployment. This involves setting coverage and capacity targets that meet the needs of the customer's business objectives. This means introducing a predictive site survey, performing a manual site survey and deployment plans. The tools that will be used in the NEC context would be the Aerohive Wi-Fi scheduling tool in HiveManager Classic. We will need to determine the number of clients expected to serve, the type of traffic expected on the network, the throughput provided by the network, the number of access points (APs) needed and where to mount them for maximum coverage. As such, a predictive model is created before performing a manual site survey to verify the accuracy of the predictions. Subsequently, we can make possible adjustments if necessary. As with the first project, I have to go to the NEC warehouse store to take inventory of the switches that will be placed on levels 3, 4, 5 and 6 of the wiring centers. This simply means that I have to cross-reference the list of materials given to me and transfer it to an Excel sheet in ascending order before the floors. I discovered a free and open source terminal emulator, serial console and network file transfer called PuTTY which involves OSI Layer 2 programming. I need to connect my laptop to the switches in order to do the inventory. Next, I need to identify the serial number and model type of the switch for Excel. My task differs from day to day. I amwalked into a server room with all the switches and wires connecting one end to the other. My task was to go through levels 3, 4, 5 and 6 each comprising 2 wiring rooms with 3 racks of switches and do some PuTTY programming. I had to do some stacking, which means converting the default switch numbering from 1 to 1, 2,3,4,5 in order. Therefore, I need to create a unique IP address for each part and do another inventory. Second, the team will need to inspect the premises. This means the customer will accompany us to the wiring center (server) and individual switch rooms on each floor so we know which switches on our side will be placed in which room. Apparently we need to establish 2 networks A and B respectively and the installation of switches will be done by hired contractors.
