A widowed mother, who becomes physiologically consumed on diet pills in hopes of being in top shape during her appearance on a game show. This raises another fascinating topic: to what extent do drugs change an individual's physical state and state of mind? Ellen Burstyn's character, Sara Goldfarb's physical and psychological structure is devastated at the end of the film because of her fixation on her appearance! Throughout the film, she constantly stares at the refrigerator, fighting every urge to eat! It is obvious to the viewer that drug addiction can harm the body, which can lead to loss of limbs, mind or even personal loss.
