  • Essay / Leadership Roles within an Organization - 1063

I wanted to delve deeper into the study of HSOs as it relates to the leadership aspect. The organization I chose to research is a nursing home that I currently work at. During the Leadership Matrix assignment, I began to realize that leadership at this particular facility is more task-oriented, which seems to be in direct contradiction to the work we do every day. The majority of our patients are elderly and suffer from mental or physical illness. The facility is staffed by nurses, certified nursing assistants, housekeepers, dietary aides, maintenance workers, social workers, admissions coordinators and their managers. All parties work together to serve a mission, to achieve the goals, and that is to help our short-term patients get out and back home as quickly as possible, with the best therapy we can provide; and to maintain a high quality of life for those who will live with us. Leadership Roles within an Organization Internal Task-Oriented vs. External Task-Oriented Hasenfeld (2010) states that “task-oriented” leadership focuses on planning, directing, implementing, budgeting and the decision. manufacturing. Internally, ensure that each department operates efficiently and that the mission defined by the organization is respected. Externally, they use their resources to evaluate the success of other organizations; then plan and set goals that will elevate them above the competition. The task-oriented leader is less concerned with how decisions made affect those of the employee; instead, they focus on making decisions based on what keeps the business moving in a positive direction. Hasenfeld (2010) suggests that these types of organizations operate with great uncertainty...... middle of paper ...... it is important that we consider the effects of our leadership on our staff, residents and families. After all, these are the components that keep the organization running.ReferencesHasenfeld. (2010). Human services as complex organizations. Wise. Kokemuller, N. (2013).
