Founded in 2008 by merger between: Templeton College (1965) and Green College (1979). Men and women – Only 550 postgraduate students. It is easy to think that an ancient university like Oxford finds itself trapped in a timeless and unchanging environment where tradition reigns to the detriment of modernity. Of course, no institution could survive 800 years without being adaptable and this university is simply opportunistic. Individual colleges that do not change with the times disappear or are swallowed up by their neighbors. The dynamic nature of the university continues today with two well-established institutions, Green College and Templeton College, recently agreeing that their interests would be best served by a merger and pooling of resources. There was no “traditional college” either; both were young, dynamic graduate colleges that shared a similar egalitarian philosophy. Academics believed that the Greens' interest in human well-being and Templeton's specialty, in business and management, could combine easily and productively. The proposal was discussed long before it became official, and after positive support from the university, Green Templeton College came into being in October 2008, becoming the university's newest college. Templeton CollegeTempleton College was founded in 1965 after much effort by two Oxford academics: Norman Letland, Bursar of Brasenose College, and Sir Norman Leyland Earden, of Nuffield College following a large donation from Clifford Barclay. Templeton was a graduate college that focused on recruiting the brightest students in business and management studies. Originally established as the Oxford Center for Management Studies, the institution was renamed Templeton in 1983 after a substantial donation of ...... middle of paper ...... for a heliometer, now residing at the London Science Museum. Independent intellectual personalityGreen Templeton aims to attract a diverse mix of motivated graduates with an independent intellectual personality. It offers members an egalitarian setting without a high table and with a single common room. A range of on-site and off-site accommodation is available to students, usually for two of their three-year stay. Space is limited for couples and families. The two merged institutions had a strong sporting tradition which continues. The Stables Bar offers the opportunity for a lively social life, offering a range of activities, with members encouraged to take the initiative and create new societies. Green Templeton now welcomes 550 graduates, more than half of whom come from outside the UK. Scholars from both colleges were transferred to give a total of 200.
