Essay / Persuasive Essay on Civil Disobedience - 1174
In the social contract, a government defends the people and the people defend it. In a way, civil disobedience enforces the social contract because it allows the government to stay organized and function properly. Civil disobedience is non-violent and respectful to the government. Without civil disobedience, women would not be able to vote and African Americans would still be extremely oppressed. Civil disobedience is necessary for organized civilization. To put it plainly, Howard Zinn once said: “To begin the process of change, to stop a war, to establish justice, it may be necessary to break the law, to commit acts of civil disobedience” (Zinn).,
