  • Essay / Why do people commit crimes? - 2175

First and foremost, as a community as a whole, everyone should stand up and speak out when something is wrong. We can't act like something is wrong and then complain that nothing is being done to help. Crime prevention should be everyone's business, not just the police. When something bad happens in a small neighborhood, you shouldn't be quick to blame someone else. There could be a whole group of people involved in the crime, but only one person gets blamed. This won't reduce crime, but it will keep other criminals out of jail. By law, the job of police officers is to reduce crime and protect everyone. The government should be stricter on sanctions. For example, if a person has committed the same crime multiple times, they should be in prison and not in public causing the same damage. There should be a limit to how far it is acceptable to let a person be free and not let them be free. Police should step up patrols in some areas where crime is higher. This way, individuals causing trouble can stay away if they know the cops are around.
